Do commodities help diversify a portfolio?
They can, especially when equities and bonds fall together. In spring 2022, commodities moved against equities for the first time since the financial crisis of 2008/09: in April 2022, the S&P 500 lost 8.8% and US bonds about 4%, while commodities gained 5.6%.
