Does "Sell in May and go away" work?

Rarely. Since 1970, the S&P 500 has gained only about 1.5% on average from May to October, against 6.9% from November to April. But the summer months were still positive on average, so selling in May would hardly have paid off. Tramondo watches seasonal patterns closely, but never bases a decision on them alone: company data, chart analysis and market dynamics count as much.
