How long do bear markets last?

It depends mainly on the economy. Since 1929, bear markets in the S&P 500 have lasted about 12 months on average, with a fall of about 30%. Without a recession they were shorter and milder: about four months and 22%. Since 1965, corrections with a recession have averaged a fall of 36%, against about 15% without one. This is why Tramondo watches the risk of recession closely.
