What is a bear‑market rally?

A bear-market rally is a sharp but temporary rise within a falling market, often after the market has become strongly oversold. Since 1929, the S&P 500 has seen 43 such rallies, gaining 17.2% on average over about 39 trading days. Telling a rally from a lasting turn takes more than the price: Tramondo also looks at trading volumes, company data and the economy.
