Investing concepts explained·9.20

Are record highs a warning sign for the stock market?

Usually not. New all-time highs have more often marked the start of a rally than its end. Since 1950, the S&P 500 has set about 20 record closes a year on average, outside major crises and bubbles. Momentum, the tendency of trends to continue, is part of Tramondo's market assessment, especially when market breadth stays healthy.
